White Swan Community Survey

During April and May 2022 a community survey was made available for completion containing a set of questions aimed at:

  • Helping the Steering Group to gain an understanding of the engagement felt in the local community for this project and the willingness of people to invest.

  • Obtaining a set of opinions from across the community on the type of pub potential customers would like to see and how much that differed from that offered by previous tenants. Any differential would feed directly into the business plan as an opportunity for growth.

Paper versions of the questionnaire were delivered to all the houses in Thornton-le-Clay and Foston as well as surrounding villages within a four mile radius. A web site was also created to host an online version of the form and this was shared to a wider audience via members of the SOS Group and also various Facebook pages.

The document on the link here shows the main results from the 556 people who responded to this survey with the key highlights being: -

  • 96% of respondents felt the village benefits from having a local pub

  • 80% of respondents would be more inclined to visit the White Swan if it was community owned

  • 180 potential pledges of support were indicated showing that there is enough backing from the community to offer a fair market price (subject to survey) for the White Swan should it come to market.
